A man charged with having a sword as a weapon during a dangerous driving incident in Dublin where a garda was injured on Monday has been released on bail pending “possible further charges”.
The garda was taken to hospital and was later discharged but remains off duty.
Father of one Dylan Murphy, 31, of Valeview Drive, Finglas, Dublin, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving at Denewood Apartments, Castleknock, on 20 May and with a weapons offence for unlawful possession of a sword at the same time.
He appeared before Judge Monika Leech at Dublin District Court.
Garda Sergeant Paul McMahon told the court that he met Mr Murphy shortly after 3pm and the accused made no reply when charged.
The sergeant confirmed he had no objection to bail subject to conditions.
The defendant, represented by solicitor Emer O’Sullivan, agreed to the terms furnished to the court.
Judge Leech noted that he had already surrendered his passport to gardaí and she ordered him not to apply for a replacement.
The judge ordered the case to resume at Blanchardstown District Court on 5 July, when it will be listed for “possible further charges”.
Legal aid was granted to Mr Murphy after the judge heard he was getting a disability payment. He has not yet indicated a plea.
