A 63-year-old man accused of attacking his sleeping wife with boiling water and a claw hammer plans to go to the High Court to apply for bail, Cork District Court has heard.
Noel Twomey, of Carbery Grove, Knocknaheeny, Co Cork, is charged with two counts of assault causing harm to his wife Jackie Twomey at their Cork city home on 15 January.
Mr Twomey’s defence solicitor Shane Collins Daly today told Judge Mary Dorgan that an application for High Court bail will be made.
Garda Sergeant Pat Lyons made an application to have Mr Twomey remanded in custody until 20 February.
Judge Dorgan adjourned the case until 20 February and indicated to Mr Twomey, who appeared via video link, that he would have to appear in court in person if he was successful in his application for bail in the High Court.
Detective Garda Brian Murphy previously told the court that Mr Twomey was arrested at 5am on 15 January on Bakers Road in Gurranabraher.
He told Judge Dorgan that Mr Twomey was arrested after he flagged down a garda patrol car while he was soaked in blood and carrying a bloodstained hammer in a plastic bag.
Dt Garda Murphy described the alleged offence as being “very serious” and said Ms Twomey was treated in intensive care following the incident.
