Maine becomes second state to ban Trump from ballot

Maine is the second state to say Donald Trump cannot run for president next year, citing a constitutional insurrection clause.

Maine now joins Colorado as the two states to ban Mr Trump from contesting the republican presidential primary.

The former president was disqualified under a constitutional clause that bans insurrectionists from holding office.

Maine’s top election officials said Mr Trump was not eligible because of his actions leading up to the attack on the US Capitol in Washington in 2021.

The Trump campaign says it will quickly file a legal objection.
