Irish citizen Zak Hania flees Gaza after months trapped

Irish-Palestinian Zak Hania, who was trapped in Rafah for months, has finally fled Gaza and will return to Ireland this weekend.

His wife Batoul Hania and their four sons left Gaza via the Rafah crossing last November and have been campaigning to be reunited with him.

Ms Hania said her husband is currently in Egypt, and she is expecting him to arrive in Dublin tomorrow.

Ms Hania has previously described her families journey from Gaza City to the Rafah crossing as ‘hell’

Ms Hania has previously described her families journey from Gaza City to the Rafah crossing as “hell” and spoke about her heartbreak at having to leave her husband behind – despite him being an Irish citizen his name was not included in the list of those who could leave at that time.

“It was heartbreaking. Not just saying goodbye, saying farewell to somebody, you are in extraordinary conditions. You are leaving somebody in danger,” Ms Batoul said.
