IP applicants who slept in tents moved to accommodation

Hundreds of international protection applicants who were sleeping in tents in a makeshift camp outside the International Protection Office in Dublin have been bussed out to alternative accommodation this morning.

The area is now strewn with abandoned tents, many of which have now been damaged and slashed. There is also a build up of rubbish in the area.

Commenting on social media this morning, Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said: “Am hearing all the men have been bussed out of Mount Street this morning.

“Amazing what some political pressure can do.”

Referring to reports of an outbreak of scabies among some of the men at the camp, Mr Ó Ríordáin said that it “should never have taken an outbreak of disease to get to this point”.
