Guilty plea from man over Dublin gangland attack in 2016

A 46-year-old man has admitted to conspiring to murder another man who was shot at his home in Dublin in a gangland attack eight years ago.

Jason ‘Jay’ O’Connor of Whitestown Grove in Blanchardstown had faced a charge of attempted murder but pleaded guilty to the alternative charge today.

The charge relates to the attempt on the life of Charlie Cooper, who was shot several times in front of his children at his home in Parslickstown Green, Mulhuddart on 5 December 2016.

A gunman fired shots at him through a window at the back of the house before chasing the 46-year-old and firing at him again.

Mr Cooper was seriously injured but was treated in hospital and has since recovered.

O’Connor also replied guilty when a second charge in relation to organised crime was put to him in the Special Criminal Court.

He also admitted that he knew of the existence of an organised crime gang between 2 August and 7 December 2016 and that he facilitated the commission of murder by that criminal organisation.

He was remanded in custody for a sentencing hearing next month.
