A Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning is in place for Ireland with frost and fog slow to clear this morning.
Met Éireann has warned of very cold weather and icy stretches making for difficult travelling conditions.
The warning is in place since 5pm yesterday, until midday today.
A dry and sunny day for much of the country, scattered showers of rain, sleet and snow in the northwest will spread across Ulster and north Connacht through the afternoon and evening.
A separate Status Yellow snow and ice warning is in place for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until 11am.
The national forecaster said snow showers could lead to difficult travelling conditions and some service disruption.
In Northern Ireland, the UK Met Office has a snow and ice warning for counties Antrim, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry, until midnight.
The warning of further snow showers and some ice are likely to continue to cause travel disruption, the Met Office said.
Tonight will be very cold with widespread sharp to severe frost, icy stretches and patches of fog or freezing fog.
Temperatures overnight could dip to -5 with light southwest or variable breezes.
