Fine Gael most popular party, new opinion poll shows

A new opinion poll suggest Fine Gael is the most popular party on 21%, down 1 percentage point.

The poll by Red C for the Business Post indicates Sinn Féin is on 20%, a fall of 3 points, compared to the last poll in May.

It comes after the party’s poor performance in the local and European elections on 7 June when it won 12% of the first preference vote.

The poll indicates a jump in support for Fianna Fáil which has seen it reach 19% up 4 points.

Independents fell four points to 15%. However, this partly due to Red C including the newly established Independent Ireland as a separate party.

Independent Ireland has 5% after it won a seat in the European Parliament as former RTÉ journalist Ciaran Mullooly became a MEP.

The Green Party has seen its support increase by 1 point to 5%, the Social Democrats is unchanged at 5% and Labour is down 1 point to 3%.

People Before Profit-Solidarity and Aontú are both unchanged at 3%.

Red C interviewed a random sample of 1,000 adults between 21 and 26 June.
