€5m worth of drugs, ten guns and cash seized in Dublin

Gardaí have seized almost €5 million worth of drugs, ten guns and €100,000 in cash.

Over the last week regional, divisional and specialist units have been targeting organised crime groups in north, west and south Dublin.

A man in his 20s was arrested and detained under the Offences Against the State Act last Friday after gardaí from Clondalkin searched a house and discovered a semi-automatic machine pistol and nine rounds of ammunition.

He has since been released from custody.

Two other guns were also recovered in west Dublin when gardaí in Ballyfermot searched a local park last Saturday.

Officers from the Dublin Crime Response Team searched a house in Fortunestown in Tallaght last Tuesday and discovered €80,000 worth of cannabis.

A man was arrested and charged.

The following day, gardaí from Ronanstown searched four properties in Clondalkin and seized seven guns and ammunition along with €200,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine and €100,000 in cash.

Tracker devices and phones were also discovered and €67,000 was frozen in a bank account.

Two men in their 30s were also arrested in Beresford Street that day after €200,000 worth of cannabis was seized in a car.

Another €300,000 worth of the drug was found in a follow up search of a house in Finglas and a man in his 20s was arrested there.

Over €4m worth of drugs were discovered in two separate operations yesterday.

€3m worth of cocaine and cannabis herb was found during a search of a business premises in Dublin 12.

Three people were arrested and are still being detained under drug trafficking legislation.

Separately a man in his 50s is still being questioned after 55 kilos of herbal cannabis worth €1.1 million was found concealed in a van which arrived at Dublin Port on a ferry from the UK.

Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis has said the seizure of the firearms has no doubt saved lives and the removal from criminal gangs of significant quantities of drugs and cash will affect their ability to operate in communities.
