Dublin city centre taskforce to be established

Recommendations to improve safety and the experience of people in Dublin city centre are set to be drawn up by a new taskforce.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has been in contact with the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council Richard Shakespeare and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris as work to establish the taskforce is stepped up.

A memo for the Government is being prepared and it is expected to go before the Cabinet within weeks.

Engagement with the political party leaders will take place in advance of this.

“The Taoiseach intends to appoint a chair and members drawn from the council, gardaí, and retail, business, community and cultural groups,” a spokesperson said.

The taskforce will have 12 weeks to draw up its recommendations.
