Firefighters in Valencia were surprised to find a live cat among the remains of an apartment block which was ravaged by fire eight days ago.
Coco reunited with her owner Andrea, who was in disbelief as she thought she wouldn’t see her cat again.
“My poor little thing!” Andrea exclaimed in a video posted on X by local police as she embraced Coco.
“We found him through pure luck,” a firefighter can be heard saying in the same video.
Coco was found in what appears to be the place he took refuge in when the fire broke out – one of the building’s dry columns.
Coco was immediately taken to the vet for a complete check-up by his owner.
The cat appeared to be in good health but smelled heavily of smoke.
Further tests are being conducted to assess whether the cat has suffered any internal injuries.
The fire, which spread rapidly as the flames were fanned by strong winds, broke out on 22 February in the El Campanar district.
Around 100 survivors, including Andrea, are being housed at a local hotel as they wait for a more permanent solution.
