Can TikTok memes help a political party win a general election?
In the UK, strategists seem to think so.
In the run up to next week’s contest, TikTok has become a battleground for the hearts and minds of voters, especially younger ones.
Parties have devoted a lot of effort – and money – to creating short, edgy content on a platform which is used by more than 23 million people every month.
While TikTok says it doesn’t allow political advertising, there is no shortage of satire, weaponised in memes.
So, with a general election due to take place in Ireland over the coming months, can we expect to see similar campaign tactics deployed here?
