Can Southampton’s High Pressing Game Upset Leicester City’s Counter-Attacking Style?

Southampton and Leicester City are set to meet in a highly anticipated English Premier League (EPL) game that promises to be an exciting clash of two in-form teams. The match is scheduled to take place on March 11th, 2023, at the St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton. Both teams have been performing well in recent weeks, and this game is likely to be a closely contested encounter.

The clash of styles between Southampton’s high pressing game and Leicester City’s counter-attacking approach promises to be one of the key battles of the match. Southampton’s pressing game has been effective in disrupting the opposition’s play and creating chances for their own team. However, Leicester City’s pace on the counter-attack could prove to be too much for the Saints to handle.

Southampton, who are currently in ninth place in the EPL standings, have been on a good run of form lately. The Saints have won three of their last five league matches, including a 20 victory over Burnley in their most recent game. Southampton’s manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl, has been credited with turning the team’s fortunes around after a difficult start to the season. The Austrian has implemented a highpressing, attacking style of play that has brought the best out of his players.

Leicester City, on the other hand, are currently sitting in third place in the EPL table, just two points behind Manchester United in second. The Foxes have been in excellent form this season, winning ten of their last twelve league games. Brendan Rodgers’ side are known for their fast-paced, counter-attacking style of play, and they will be looking to take advantage of Southampton’s high defensive line.

The two teams have already met once this season, with Leicester City winning 3-1 at the King Power Stadium in November 2022. Goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Jamie Vardy, and James Maddison secured the victory for the Foxes, while Che Adams scored a consolation goal for Southampton. The Saints will be looking to avenge that defeat in front of their home fans.
