Two brothers have appeared in court charged with firearms offences following the seizure of guns and ammunition in Finglas in Dublin two years ago.
Glen Ward, 30, has been charged with two firearms offences, while his younger brother Eric O’ Driscoll, 22, faces six firearms charges.
Both men were remanded in custody but for security reasons the judge asked the media not to report the prison they have been sent to and the location and date of their next court appearance.
Both men were brought by gardaí from Finglas before the evening sitting of the Dublin District Court after they were charged with firearms offences following the seizure of weapons, ammunition, magazines and cash two years ago.
Mr Ward is facing two firearms charges.
He’s accused of possession of an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and of recklessly discharging a weapon at an address on Ratoath Drive in Finglas on or about 1 January 2022.
Mr O’ Driscoll is accused of possession of an AR-15 rifle and an Ingram machine pistol, along with possession of ammunition and magazines on 10 February last year at Ratoath Drive in Finglas.
He is also charged with recklessly discharging a firearm at a different address on Ratoath Drive on or about the 1 of January 2022.
Two gardaí, Wayne O’ Brien and Shane Gallagher, gave evidence of arrest charge and caution.
They told the court that neither of the accused made any reply when charged with the offences at Finglas Garda Station this afternoon.
Defence Solicitor Niall O’Connor said there were fears for the men’s safety and requested that each of the accused be detained at a specific prison and appear at a specific court to make a bail application in the near future.
For security reasons Judge Michele Finan requested the media not to report the prison they have been remanded or the court they are next due to appear at, or the day of their next appearance.
The court was told there will be garda objections to free legal aid and to the men’s applications for bail at their next appearance.
