Arrest made in connection to migrants found in Rosslare

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the discovery of 14 people hidden in a refrigerated trailer at Rosslare Europort in Co Wexford last week.

He was arrested by gardaí in Rosslare for an alleged offence under the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act, 2021 and is being held at a garda station in the southeast of the country.

Nine men, three women and two young girls were found at around 3am on 8 January, when the vehicle was stopped and searched after arriving on a ferry that had travelled from Zeebrugge in Belgium.

They were given medical checks and brought to a reception centre in Dublin for processing.

Gardaí have said the investigation is ongoing.
