Indonesia’s Mount Ibu erupted in the early hours of yesterday morning, sending black and grey volcanic ash columns 6km into the sky, according to the country’s volcanology agency, PVMBG.
At least 1,800 residents in seven villages were evacuated, according to local authorities, who have recommended that a seven-kilometre radius be cleared.
Ibu’s activities follow a series of eruptions of different volcanos in Indonesia, which sits on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’ and has 127 active volcanos.
