27 dead following Israeli strike on UN school in Gaza

Israel has said it conducted an attack on what it described as a Hamas compound located inside a United Nations school in central Gaza.

The Hamas-run government in the enclave said at least 27 people were killed and dozens are injured after Israeli missiles struck the school.

The Israeli military claimed Hamas fighters were inside the facility, adding that before the attack it took steps to reduce the risk of harm to civilians.

Meanwhile, Hamas has demanded that a ceasefire deal must include a permanent end to the war in Gaza and Israeli withdrawal from the enclave.

The leader of the militant leader, Ismail Haniyeh, made the remark in response to a truce proposal announced by the US President, Joe Biden, last week.
